Sergio Ramos Close to Sevilla Takeover After €450m Bid

Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is reportedly on the verge of completing a takeover of Sevilla after submitting a bid worth approximately €450 million for his boyhood club.

According to reports in Spain, the Seville-born defender has entered an exclusivity period to finalise the purchase through his investment firm, Five Eleven Capital, alongside business partner Martin Ink.

A due diligence process is currently underway to assess the club’s finances before the deal can be completed.

The proposed takeover comes at a critical time for Sevilla, whose financial position has deteriorated significantly in recent seasons.

The club is believed to have recorded accumulated losses of around €155 million over the last three years, while official debt stands at €70 million.

However, internal estimates reportedly place the total liability closer to €180 million, further compounded by a €108 million loan secured last year.

Sevilla’s major shareholders, including the Del Nido family, José Castro and the Carrión family, have been seeking new ownership amid mounting financial pressure and internal instability.

Ramos’ interest in acquiring the club became public earlier this year, sparking negotiations with shareholders and club executives.

Unlike typical foreign-led takeovers, the move carries strong emotional significance, with Ramos regarded as one of Sevilla’s most iconic academy graduates and former captains.

If finalised, the takeover is expected to go beyond financial restructuring, with Ramos aiming to restore stability, credibility and local control to the club at a time when many European teams are moving toward overseas ownership models.

At 39, Ramos would join a growing list of elite former players transitioning into club ownership.

Former teammates Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić have invested in Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City respectively, while Giorgio Chiellini holds shares in Major League Soccer side LAFC.

For Ramos, the move is seen as a long-term commitment to safeguarding Sevilla’s future, marking a new chapter in his football legacy away from the pitch.
