PORT HARCOURT: Governor Siminalayi Fubara has voiced concern about President Bola Tinubu’s reference to him in his statement on the setting of ablaze of Rivers State local government secretariats.
Violent conflicts erupted in at least four local government areas with sections of the buildings in Eleme, Ikwerre, and Emohua council buildings set ablaze by marauding political hoodlums, while bullets were fired irregularly in Ahoada East to defy newly elected council members on Monday.

Fubara demanded that the poll that produced the newly elected LG chairman take place even if the police, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chose not to participate.
The Action People’s Party (APP) won 22 chairmanship positions out of 23 in the oil-rich state while the Action Alliance (AA) won a seat. Fubara immediately swore in the 23 newly elected local government chairmen on Sunday but some of the LG bosses were attacked upon assumption of office on Monday. Some council secretariats were also set ablaze by political opponent

At least four local government areas saw violent conflicts break out. On Monday, wandering political thugs burned down parts of the buildings in Eleme, Ikwerre, and Emohua council grounds, and Ahoada East saw sporadic shooting in protest of the newly elected council members. LG secretariats were set on fire after police personnel left the 23 local secretariats they had guarded early on Monday.
Fubara insisted on holding the vote that resulted in the election of the new LG chairman against the opposition of the police, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
