BIRNI KEBBI: Security operatives have intensified efforts to rescue 25 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to a report by Sahara Reporters, terrorists invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, killing one staff member and injuring a security guard before whisking away an unspecified number of female students.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 5:52 a.m., with armed assailants firing sporadically as they gained entry into the school premises.
In a statement released via the Nigeria Police Force’s official WhatsApp channel, the command confirmed the abduction and disclosed that its tactical units engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
However, the bandits had already scaled the school fence and taken 25 students from their hostel to an unknown location before reinforcement arrived.
The police statement read: On November 17, 2025, at about 0400hrs, a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons stormed Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, shooting sporadically.
The police tactical units deployed at the school engaged them, but the bandits had already abducted twenty-five students. One Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while Ali Shehu sustained an injury to his right hand.
Following the incident, a combined team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes has been deployed to comb known bandit routes, hideouts, and surrounding forests in search of the missing students.
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, assured residents of the command’s commitment to restoring safety.
He urged the public to remain calm but vigilant and encouraged residents to continue supporting ongoing security operations.
The Punch reports that the latest abduction follows a disturbing trend of attacks on educational institutions in northern Nigeria, despite increased deployment of security forces to vulnerable communities.
