Otti’s Meeting With Tinubu Was About Nnamdi Kanu, Not APC Defection — Aide

UMUAHIA: Abia State Governor Alex Otti did not visit President Bola Tinubu to discuss joining the APC, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, has clarified.

In a statement on Thursday, Ekeoma dismissed claims by former Commissioner Charles Ogbonnaya, who alleged that Otti went to Aso Rock to perfect plans to defect ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the governor’s meeting with Tinubu was solely to continue negotiations for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. He said Otti met the President shortly after visiting Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on November 30.

Ekeoma described Ogbonnaya’s claims as petty, laughable and irresponsible, insisting that the issue of Kanu’s release is too sensitive for political propaganda. He added that APC leaders themselves openly desire Otti in their party because they see him as “an asset, not a liability.

He challenged Ogbonnaya to name anyone Otti allegedly betrayed and questioned why the former commissioner abandoned Atiku only 48 hours after the 2023 presidential results were announced.

Ekeoma further accused Ogbonnaya of contradiction, saying it makes no sense to attack the governor for seeking Kanu’s freedom while also alleging political motives.
