ABEOKUTA: The Ogun State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and two of his coaches, which occurred on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, preliminary reports indicate that the two coaches involved in the accident lost their lives at the scene. Their bodies have since been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.
Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
Other occupants of the vehicle were said to have sustained injuries and are also being treated.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking and unfortunate, the Ogun State Government extended its condolences to the families, friends and associates of the deceased, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The state government also urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly observe traffic rules, especially during the festive period when traffic volume is high.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
