NYSC Threaten Lagos Corps Member Who Calls President Tinubu “Terrible” in Emotional TikTok Video

LAGOS: A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos State has raised concerns about alleged threats from the NYSC board after criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government in a viral TikTok post.

The young woman, known on TikTok as @talktoraye, shared her frustration with the escalating cost of living in Nigeria, visibly emotional as she expressed her distress.

In the video, she described the Tinubu administration as “terrible” and accused the government of ignoring the economic struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians.

If many Nigerians start speaking out about what we’re going through, maybe something will change in the government,” she said in the clip.

I don’t know if there’s any other president as bad as you, but you are such a terrible president.

She also shared the personal financial difficulties she faces as a corps member, revealing that her monthly NYSC allowance barely covers her basic living expenses. The rising cost of essential goods often forces her to spend more than she earns.

In the video, she continued: “I just came from a supermarket where I bought food, and prices have gone up again. It’s like every week, the prices keep increasing. What is the government doing about it? Is there going to be a time when these prices stop going up?”

She lamented the outrageous cost of everyday items, such as a crate of eggs, which she claimed now costs N6,500 compared to N800 just a short time ago. It doesn’t make sense, she said. “I’m so overwhelmed because this is the first time I’ve lived away from my family.”

She went on to highlight other rising costs: “After leaving the supermarket, I got home, and even the security and NEPA bills have doubled. I can’t keep up.

Every single penny I make is going to pay bills. And then, if I want to go out with a friend, Uber costs N25,000. Why are things so expensive?”

She also expressed frustration with the state of Lagos, saying, “Lagos stinks. Everywhere smells. What is the government doing about that?” As a corps member, she said she found little value in the NYSC scheme, adding that the money she spends on transportation exceeds her allowance.

We need to start calling out the government,” she stated. “Tinubu, you are a terrible person. What are you doing to help the economy?”

Less than 24 hours after her video went viral, she posted another one showing her receiving calls from an NYSC official. In the new clip, she revealed that she had been contacted several times by NYSC staff, urging her to remove the video and stop criticizing the government.

This incident has sparked a wave of reactions from Nigerians, with many questioning whether corps members should be restricted from voicing their opinions on governance and national issues
