NNPP Sweeps Kano Elections In Historic 44-0 Victory Amid Peaceful Polls

KANO:The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) swept all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the recently concluded local government elections across Kano State’s 44 local government areas.

This was confirmed by Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), who declared the NNPP the winner in all contested local government seats. Six political parties participated in the peaceful election across the state, with no incidents of violence or electoral malpractice reported.

Malumfashi praised the transparent and orderly conduct of the election, stating, “We are pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 44 local government areas. Observers commended the seamless organization and security arrangements that ensured a smooth election process. The election was held after a series of court cases, with the Kano State High Court ultimately granting KANSIEC the authority to proceed.

Justice Sanusi Ma’aji ruled that KANSIEC had the constitutional right to oversee elections across Kano’s local governments, dismissing legal challenges from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other parties.

On election day, correspondents reported that local vigilante groups and Kano Road Transport Agency (Karota) officials provided security at polling units, as the Kano State Police Command adhered to a court order restricting their involvement.

Local security officials, some carrying sticks and traditional weapons, maintained order as residents vote.

Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the police’s compliance with the court’s order, stating, “The Police Command will not participate in the local government election as directed by the court. However, we remain committed to maintaining public safety and will fulfill our constitutional duty to protect lives and properties.”

Election officials were seen arriving at polling units as the process began smoothly across Kano State.
