ABUJA: The Nigeria Police Force have open up to the raid at Labour house Abuja after denial since August 7 raid by its operatives. The force said the raid was not targeted at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour House Congress.
The spokesman of the Nigeria police , Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made a statement on Friday in Abuja, He said the raid was in connection to a criminal suspect traced to a rented shop in the building.
The Assistant commissioner of police, said the raid was as a result of an ongoing investigation where the prime suspect was traced to a shop within the Labour House
“The Force spokesperson said the Nigeria Police Force has noted a publication alleging that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Secretariat, known as the Labour House, located in the Central Business District, Abuja, was raided by the Police.
Mr Adejobi said “Detectives, armed with the appropriate legal authority, conducted an operation at the building, which turned out to be the NLC building.
Mr Adejobi said the Nigeria Police Force seeks the cooperation and support of the NLC leadership as police continue this investigation, which is necessary to safeguarding our dear nation.
Since the suspect is well-known and presents a grave threat to Nigeria and other African countries, it is essential that this investigation be carried out for the safety of everyone concerned, including the Nigerian Labour Congress.
In carrying out its statutory responsibilities, the Nigeria Police Force is still dedicated to upholding the law, remain professional, and protecting human rights, he stated.
Mr. Adejobi urged Nigerians to maintain their vigilance and assess potential tenants on their property from a safety perspective.
The NLC leadership had accused personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) of invading its Abuja office on Wednesday night, the 7TH of August.
According to statement by NLC spokesperson, Benson Upah, the operatives arrested the security guards and forced them to hand over keys to the offices on the second floor.
Upah added that the operatives broke into the floor, ransacked the bookshop, and stole hundreds of books and publications.
