LAGOS: The Lagos State Government has announced a partnership with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge into a modern transport hub known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the project as part of the state’s efforts to reclaim degraded public spaces and improve urban mobility.
According to Wahab, the initiative will transform the previously unsafe and neglected under-bridge area into a secure, organized and community-friendly facility that will serve commuters and residents within the Obalende axis.
He explained that the bus park will feature a regulated transport terminal, a recycling drop-off centre, a road camp for officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and security agencies, over 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks, and other essential amenities.
Wahab added that the design prioritizes safety, health and aesthetics, with solar-powered lighting to enhance night-time visibility, reduce blind spots and strengthen CCTV surveillance, thereby curbing criminal activities in the area.

He further revealed that a biodigester system would be installed to sustainably manage wastewater generated within the facility, while a dedicated recycling station would discourage illegal waste disposal.
The commissioner noted that the project aligns with the state’s climate responsibility agenda, with provisions for solar panels to improve energy efficiency and tree planting to enhance air quality and visual appeal.
“This project reflects our resolve to reclaim public spaces, make them functional, sustainable and safe, and ensure they serve the needs of Lagosians in a modern and responsible way, Wahab said.
Rapidospace News Online reports that the initiative follows recent enforcement actions by the state government, including the eviction of squatters and the removal of illegal structures beneath the Obalende bridge.
