The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate allegations of murder levelled against the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows heightened public outrage over viral allegations against the cleric on social media, which initially centered on claims of sexual misconduct before expanding to include murder accusations.
Saturday PUNCH had earlier reported that Okafor stepped aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as the allegations escalated, with several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, making public claims against him.
During a church service last Sunday, the pastor publicly apologised to Ogala, kneeling on the pulpit while admitting to past “mistakes” and seeking forgiveness.
The controversy intensified shortly after his wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, an event attended by prominent clerics.
Speaking with PUNCH Online, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the police initially could not act because none of the accusers had submitted a formal petition.
However, she confirmed on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police ordered the SCID to invite Okafor for questioning following fresh allegations of murder circulating online.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” Adebisi said.
She added that the CP also directed potential witnesses to present themselves and provide statements to aid the investigation.
Adebisi further disclosed that she had personally contacted one of the YouTubers who interviewed individuals behind the murder allegations in order to obtain direct access to the alleged witnesses.
The wave of allegations began on December 14, when Ogala released emotional videos on Instagram, accusing the cleric of a sexual relationship that allegedly started in 2017 and lasted nine years.
She claimed Okafor repeatedly promised marriage before eventually marrying another woman in December 2025.
Ogala also alleged that the pastor shared her explicit images and videos without consent, contributed to the collapse of her previous marriage, and caused her emotional and financial distress.
She further alleged that Okafor offered her $10,000 to retract her claims and accuse a rival pastor of orchestrating the scandal.
Subsequently, Ogala, through her lawyers, demanded N1bn in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.
As the controversy widened, other women, including the pastor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also accused him of infidelity, deception and physical assault.
However, some members of the church have dismissed the allegations, describing them as attempts by disgruntled individuals to extort money from their man of God.
