The National Organising Secretary of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu, has condemned the characterization of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as a Yoruba government, describing it as a divisive ploy aimed at undermining national unity and sabotaging the President’s chances of securing a second term.
In a strongly worded statement, Omololu asserted that President Tinubu did not attain office through tribal privilege but by democratic election, with support from Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and regional lines. He stressed that the administration is inclusive and representative of the nation, not a single ethnic group.
“To label Tinubu’s government as ‘Yoruba’ is not only dishonest but a vile act of tribal opportunism,” Omololu said. “When President Muhammadu Buhari served for eight years, no one described his leadership as a ‘Fulani government.’ He completed his mandate without ethnic-based opposition campaigns.”
He urged political stakeholders to apply the same standard of fairness and constitutional respect to Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that justice must not be demanded selectively.
According to Omololu, Tinubu’s presidency is anchored in constitutional order and will ultimately be judged by Nigerians, not by tribal rhetoric. “Nigeria is not a tribal empire,” he stated. “Our country cannot be held hostage by invented narratives or ethnic blackmail.”
He also referenced recent revelations by Dr. Sandra Duru, who disclosed an alleged conspiracy involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, purportedly aimed at painting the Tinubu administration as ethnically biased in a bid to deny him re-election. Omololu commended Duru’s courage, describing her as a voice of integrity in a time of misinformation and political manipulation.
“We salute Dr. Duru for her uncommon bravery in exposing this plot. Her actions are a reminder that silence in the face of conspiracy is complicity,” he said.
Omololu further decried what he called a coordinated smear campaign against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging that Akpabio’s cooperation with the President had made him a target for unfounded attacks.
“Politics must never cross the line into personal destruction. Fabricating accusations, attacking families, and weaponising falsehoods is not politics—it is malice,” he said.
He concluded by warning against the international spread of misinformation, likening it to “setting fire to your seat in a cinema and crying ‘Fire!’ for selfish gain.”
“This selfish ambition, masked as activism, threatens not only one man but the very peace and integrity of our nation,” Omololu warned. “All patriots must rise to defend truth, justice, and the unity of Nigeria
