Kogi Will Deepen Ties With Okpebholo’s Administration-Gov Ododo

KOGI STATE: Ahmed Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi State, greeted Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect of Edo State, and promised to bolster relationships with the newly elected All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by Governor Ododo’s Special Media Adviser, Mr. Ismaila Isah, the governor was reacting to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Sunday decision that Senator Okpebholo was the duly elected governor of Edo State.

Ododo congratulated the party’s leadership and the governor-elect of Edo state for their perseverance and determination in bringing the APC back to power in Edo state.

The governor of Kogi, who supervised the APC’s campaigns in Akoko-Edo and helped the party win there with 34,847 votes—the highest total the party has ever received in a local government area in the state—praised the people of Edo state for their composure and order during the voting process, as well as for voting for the APC candidate.

He also commended INEC and law enforcement agencies for displaying high level of professionalism and for ensuring that law and order prevailed during the Edo state governorship election.

 

Governor Ododo restated the APC’s and the governor-elect of Edo State’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of the populace and to embrace every part of the state in the development agenda of the APC administration upon its inauguration in accordance with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The statement also stated that “the Kogi State Governor prayed for God’s guidance for the Edo State Governor-elect to pilot the affairs of the state into a new chapter of development, while expressing commitment to deepen partnership between Kogi and Edo as neighboring states with social, cultural, and economic ties.”

INEC announced on Sunday that Senator Monday Okpebholo had won the Edo State gubernatorial election. In a highly contentious race, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated his closest rival, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, with 291,667 votes. INEC proclaimed Okpebholo the winner of the Edo State gubernatorial election on Sunday.
