Katsina Governor Radda Mourns Niger Flood Victims, Consoles Affected Families

KATSTINA: The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has extended heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Niger State following the devastating flood that struck Mokwa and surrounding areas, claiming at least 151 lives.

The torrential rains washed away dozens of homes and critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges, displacing hundreds of residents and leaving communities in mourning.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Governor Radda described the tragedy as a painful reminder of nature’s power and the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness. The news of the Mokwa flood disaster deeply grieves us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this unfortunate incident, Radda said.

He offered sympathy to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, families who lost loved ones, and all residents affected by the disaster. Radda noted that natural disasters highlight the shared vulnerability of communities and called for unity in difficult times. Katsina State stands in full solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Niger State. We must come together to support one another during times of crisis, he added.

The governor emphasized the urgent need for enhanced flood control systems and robust disaster preparedness measures across northern Nigeria, especially as the rainy season intensifies.

He also called on relevant federal and state agencies to take proactive steps to prevent future occurrences and minimize the impact of natural disasters.

Governor Radda offered prayers for the souls of the departed, asking Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and comfort for the bereaved families.

May Allah protect all Nigerian communities from future disasters and grant strength to those who are grieving, he concluded.
