ASABA: The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed yesterday the arrest of gunmen responsible for the killing of over nine police officers in Delta State. Egbetokun made this announcement during his visit to the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, where he addressed officers and commended their efforts in apprehending the suspects.
He explained that the police had tracked the criminals into a forest, facing significant challenges, but were ultimately successful in apprehending them and recovering their weapons. “Despite the odds, we pursued the criminals into the forest, confronted them, and arrested them with their weapons to ensure they face justice, Egbetokun stated.
The IGP also praised the professionalism of the Delta State Police Command, reaffirming the force’s commitment to bringing criminals to justice. “Our goal is to locate and apprehend any criminal, no matter where they hide, he added.

- In a separate development, Chris Isiguzo, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), called on the police to strengthen their internal oversight mechanisms to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
Speaking at a workshop for Police Public Relations Officers in Asaba, themed “Strengthening Nigeria Police Force Oversight and Accountability Mechanism, Isiguzo urged the police to foster mutual trust with the public by addressing concerns with empathy and fairness.
The NUJ is committed to partnering with the police to create an environment where ethical practices, professionalism, and mutual respect thrive, he said. Isiguzo emphasized that effective oversight and accountability are crucial for improving police-public relations and ensuring a safe and just society.
The workshop, attended by police officers and media practitioners, focused on enhancing transparency, accountability, and public relations within the Nigeria Police Force.
