ABEOKUTA: The Nigerian Police Force has raised alarm over the disturbing trend of young women, particularly those aged 20-32, vanishing under suspicious circumstances, with many cases tied to the growing hookup culture sweeping across the country. According to the Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Command, Omolola Odutola, investigations reveal that many missing girls are lured through hookup channels and apps, only to fall victim to ritual killings.
Odutola stressed the dangerous allure of the “get-rich-quick” mentality, which has led many young men to believe that participating in ritual killings can bring wealth. She highlighted the alarming rise in missing persons reports, with an average of 10 young women disappearing daily, often after being invited by strangers to unknown locations.
While the state government and police have worked together to curb these incidents, efforts to raise awareness about the risks and provide counseling for survivors continue.
