Harrison Gwamnishu Speaks Out After Being Accused of Diverting Kidnap Ransom

ASABA: Popular activist and founder of the Safe City Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has finally responded to allegations that he diverted part of the ransom raised for kidnapped victims in Edo State.

The accusations were made by Dr. Abdul Ganiyu Oseni, whose pregnant sister and her husband were abducted.

Although the kidnappers later released the woman, her husband remains in captivity, sparking tension and fueling public suspicion.

In a Facebook video, Gwamnishu strongly denied the claims, insisting he never took money, was never arrested, and did not flee Edo State.

He explained that the operation did not go as planned and that the kidnappers had already informed the family that only the wife would be freed.

Nobody stole any money. Nobody was arrested. My life was even threatened yesterday, he said.

Gwamnishu added that government officials only invited him to assist with tracking the kidnappers.

He said he demanded no financial reward, stressing that his involvement was strictly humanitarian.

I didn’t collect a kobo. If I wanted money, I would have asked for 100 million. It was never about money.

He also suggested that the kidnappers may now be celebrating because they realized he was helping security agencies track them.

Despite the controversy, he reaffirmed his commitment to working with the military, police and vigilantes to tackle insecurity, adding that no pressure would make him reveal sensitive operational strategies.
