ASABA: The Governor of Delta State Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has responded to repeated calls from riverine communities for the dredging of the River Niger to help mitigate flooding. Governor Oborevwori stated that the responsibility for dredging the River Niger lies with the Federal Government, given its vast scope and the impact it would have on multiple states.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, made these remarks during the formal presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Gregory Nnamdi Oputa, Obi Oputa III, the 20th Obi of Aboh in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking on the issue of the River Niger, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that it is a long-standing concern that will require federal intervention due to the widespread implications for many states. “The issue of dredging the River Niger is a long-standing one. It will best be handled by the Federal Government as many states will be affected,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori also took the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Oputa on his successful ascension to the throne as the Obi of Aboh. He urged the new monarch to leverage his vast experience and exposure to serve the people of Aboh with wisdom and dedication.
“As a traditional ruler, especially under a democratic dispensation, it is crucial that I stress the need for you to follow the path of dialogue and consensus in all your dealings with your subjects and in all the community’s relationship with all tiers and levels of government,” the Governor remarked.
He further expressed his hope that Obi Oputa III would uphold justice, fairness, and equity, and lead the people of Aboh to greater prosperity. “It is my sincere hope that Your Majesty will strive to maintain the sanctity of his exalted office and lead your people to greater prosperity while upholding the tenets of justice, fair play, and equity, the Governor added.

Governor Oborevwori also acknowledged the significant personalities present at the ceremony, including captains of industry, traditional leaders, government officials, and well-wishers from within and outside Aboh Kingdom. He noted that the turnout demonstrated the importance and historical significance of the event.
The Governor paid tribute to the legacy of the late Obi Imegwu, whose reign was marked by peace and unity within Aboh Kingdom and beyond. He encouraged Obi Oputa III to continue this legacy, facing the challenge of not only maintaining but also enhancing the peace and harmony that define Aboh Kingdom.
I urge you, the people of Aboh Kingdom, to accept the challenge of making the reign of Obi Oputa III one of the most successful in the annals of kingship, not only in Aboh, Ndoshimili, or Delta State, but across the country, Governor Oborevwori concluded.
The event marked a momentous occasion for Aboh Kingdom as Obi Oputa III formally took on the responsibilities of his royal office, with high hopes for continued growth, peace, and prosperity under his leadership.
