PORTHARCOURT: Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, recently revealed his discovery of an “ambush” hidden within the peace agreement he signed alongside certain members of the state House of Assembly.
The pact, initially aimed at resolving tensions between his administration and a faction of lawmakers, reportedly turned out to be a ploy by 27 pro-Wike legislators who had sought to impeach him in 2023.
During a non-denominational thanksgiving event in Port Harcourt commemorating his survival of the October 30th impeachment attempt, Fubara clarified that while the agreement’s initiator, President Bola Tinubu, was genuine, others involved had ulterior motives.
Reflecting on the betrayal, Fubara criticized the lawmakers, condemning their violation of the peace terms as fraudulent.
Fubara recounted efforts he made to fulfill the peace terms, including withdrawing court cases as instructed, only to be blindsided by the faction’s continued antagonism.
