Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hosted his predecessor and former Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at the State House, Lagos, on Monday.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, state this in a post on X handle .formerly twitter, stating that the courtesy visit saw the two politicians engage in extensive discussions centered around the progress and future of Lagos State.
“Today, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu host his predecessor in office, HE Akinwunmi Ambode, who came on a courtesy visit Akosile wrote.
Since Ambode assumed office as governor in 2019, it was the first time he had publicly seen Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos government house.
The two politicians share an uneasy relationship that began in 2018 when Ambode expressed his opposition to Sanwo-Olu’s aspirations to become governor.
The two leaders had an extensive conversation on Lagos State’s growth, her economic progress, and her role as the subregion’s sociopolitical stabilizer.
Ambode lost the primary election after reportedly falling out with President Bola Tinubu, who is regarded as the godfather of Lagos politics. However, there have been some reconciliation attempts between them since 2023.
Sanwo-Oluin in June 2023, attended the private party hosted to celebrate Ambode’s 60th birthday at the former governor’s residence. Ambode was also present at the wedding of Sanwo-Olu’s daughter in Lagos
Sanwo-Olu, Ambode and former Governor Babatunde Fashola where joined at a reception organised in honour of President Bola Tinubu in Lagos in the same month.
It was the first time since Ambode left office in 2019 that all four governors of the state since 1999 would be seen together at a public event.
