DELTA STATE: Former councillor Ndubisi Okechukwu, who previously served Emu-Uno in Delta State’s Kwale Local Government Area, has been detained by police after a foiled kidnapping attempt.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement from Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, credible intelligence led the Divisional Police Officer of Abbi Division, Florence Onum, to act on a plot to kidnap a notable member of the Abbi community.
“Responding to the intelligence, the DPO, Kwale, and her team launched an investigation. On October 21, 2024, around 1900hrs, Hon. Ndubisi Okechukwu, a two-time Emu-Uno councillor, was apprehended,” part of the statement read.
During questioning, Okechukwu allegedly admitted to the plot, attributing it to his suspension from the council. He claimed he intended to kidnap the woman, hoping the Local Government would pay her ransom, as she is reportedly close to the chairman.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
