EGOSA 1990 Set Honours Queen Tonia Ezeagwu, Chief Egbede, Others at Colourful AGM

UMUNEDE: The Ede Grammar School Old Students Association (EGOSA), 1990 Set, has honoured Her Majesty, Queen Tonia Ezeagwu, the Royal Mother of Umunede Kingdom, alongside other distinguished personalities, for their selfless contributions to the growth, progress, and sustainability of the association since its establishment in 2018.

The awards ceremony formed part of the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at C4 Hotel, Umunede, Delta State. The colourful event was enlivened with music, dance, and other forms of entertainment, adding glamour and excitement to the gathering.

Queen Tonia Ezeagwu was specially recognized for her unwavering support and consistent encouragement of the association over the years. Also honoured was Mr. Benjamin Ihieme, who lives and works in the United States of America and travelled from the US to attend the AGM, a gesture members described as a rare demonstration of loyalty and dedication.

Another prominent award recipient was Chief Obiazukwor Oyo Egbede, Chairman of C4 Hotels and a West Germany-based business mogul. Chief Egbede expressed deep gratitude to his alma mater for finding him worthy of such recognition.

He was also recently conferred with a chieftaincy title by the traditional ruler of Umunede Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenwaeli I, JP, the Obi Agadagidi of Umunede Kingdom, as Chief Onyeweihie of Umunede Kingdom, on December 29, 2025.

Chief Egbede thanked the executives of EGOSA 1990 Set and the awards committee for the honour bestowed on him and other awardees, describing the gesture as both motivating and encouraging.

Among other award recipients was the provost of the association, Mr. Precious Ebudon, who was specially recognized for his consistency, dedication, and outstanding service. Widely regarded as one of the most active executives of EGOSA 1990 Set, Ebudon was applauded for his commitment to the association’s programmes and welfare initiatives.

Barrister Justine Ejime Okolie also received an award for his significant contributions to the association, while Mr. Jude Aniye, who lives and works in West Germany, was honoured for his selfless service and support.

Other notable personalities present at the AGM included a former President of the association, Chief Emeka Ijiebor, Senior Internal Auditor with the Delta State Ministry of Local Government Affairs, as well as Mr. Uche Ukadike, the Okita of Idumuoba, Umunede.

Also in attendance were key executive members of the association, including the Vice Chairman, Pastor Louis Obabu; the Financial Secretary, Mr. Moses Okonkwo; the Welfare Officer, Mrs. Violet Olomu; and the Assistant Secretary, Engr. Ekwugwum Ifeanyi.

During the AGM, the association used the occasion to solemnly recognize and honour the families of its seven fallen members. Special prayers were offered, while words of encouragement and fellowship were extended to their widows, widowers, and children, reaffirming the association’s commitment to standing by its members and their families in times of loss.

Earlier in the programme, the President of EGOSA 1990 Set, Dr. Rollins Chiyem Iyadi, delivered the opening address, commending members who attended the AGM, particularly those who travelled from different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement and nostalgia as members reunited after several decades. It was a fun-filled moment as old classmates reminisced about their school days, recalling past activities, unique character traits, and shared experiences.

The hall resonated with laughter, jokes, and joyful exchanges, as members expressed happiness at seeing one another after over 30 years.

Overall, the event underscored unity, enduring friendship, and the collective commitment of members to the continuous growth and sustainability of EGOSA 1990 Set.
