LAGOS: The Regional Editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa and the founding Editor of BBC pidgin Service, Adejuwon Soyinka, was reportedly arrested by officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Lagos.
On Sunday, August 25, 2024, at approximately 5:40 a.m., Soyinka was allegedly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, shortly after arriving in Nigeria via Virgin Atlantic from the United Kingdom.
Calls and texts to reach out to Soyinka’s phone have gone unanswered, making several attempts to get in touch with him fruitless.

According to a claims given to media by a close friend of Soyinka (who wished to remain anonymous), “Adejuwon Soyinka was detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by officers of the Department of State Security service.
Shortly after he boarded a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom to arrive in Nigeria, the incident happened on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at approximately 5:40 a.m.
“The security service has not given a reason for his incarceration as of the time of this report. All attempts to get in touch with Soyinka have been fruitless, and he is still inaccessible.
