Crackdown On Protesters Flying Russian Flag, Tinubu Order Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu on Monday has directed security agencies to crack down on those flying Russian flag in the country during the nation wide protest.

Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, said this while briefing State House correspondents after the National Security Council meeting.

As stated by Musa, the President was briefed by the service chiefs on the state of national security. The Army chief maintained that the continuous nationwide protests—which in some states turned violent—were the reason for the briefing.

“They promised at the beginning of the protest that it would be peaceful, but we have since learned that some people are eager to use it as an opportunity to wreak havoc.

And since it started, everything that has happened is obvious. According to him, there has been a significant increase in burglary, looting, and other criminal activity.

He claimed that the flying of foreign flags within Nigeria’s sovereign territory had become worrisome and that this was totally unacceptable.

“We are issuing a clear warning.”The service chiefs advised the President on the current state of national security, as reported by Musa.

The Army chief insisted that the briefing was required because of the ongoing nationwide protests, which in several states escalated into violence.

“We have now heard that some people have decided to use the protest as an opportunity to inflict mayhem, despite their initial promises that it will be peaceful.

And it’s all very clear what happened since the beginning. He states there has been an obvious increase in theft, looting, and other illegal activities.

He said that it was utterly unacceptable and worrisome that foreign flags were being flown within Nigeria’s national territory.

“We are issuing a clear warning.”We have now heard that some people are ready to use the protest as an opportunity to cause mayhem, despite their initial promises that it will be peaceful.

And it’s all quite evident what has taken place since the beginning. He claims there has been an obvious increase in theft, looting, and other illegal activities.

He declared that it was entirely unacceptable and worrisome that foreign flags had been raised within Nigeria’s national territory.

The President is clear on his instructions for us not to accept anyone that wants to disrupt the peace and tranquility of Nigeria,” he said.He said all security agencies were ready to defend democracy and the sovereignty of the nation.

We will not accept anyone taking any action, for whatever reason to want to push for any change of government. “Democracy is what we stand for, democracy is what we will continue to defend,”  said the Army chief.

The CDS said he had earlier stated that the military would step in if the protests got out of hand You can see that some subversive elements are pushing individuals to carry Russian flags in Nigeria; that is crossing the red line, and we will not accept that.

President Tinubu had in a national broadcast on Sunday pleaded with the organisers of the nationwide protest to suspend the action as it had gone violent in some states with the attendant loss of lives and destruction of property.
He also warned that he would not sit and watch some people used by opposition politicians to truncate democracy in the country.
The meeting was attended by all the service chiefs, Vice President Kashim Shetima, Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, and Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police, among others.
