Burna Boy has responded to a new controversy involving him and Lagos-based socialite Sophia Egbueje.
The drama began on Thursday when leaked voice notes surfaced, sparking speculation that Burna Boy had failed to keep a promise to gift Sophia a luxury car after an alleged intimate encounter.
In November 2024, Sophia, known for her lavish lifestyle and international travels, made headlines for purchasing a Lamborghini Urus valued at over N500 million.
However, Burna Boy denied the allegations in an Instagram Story on Friday, addressing the claims in Nigerian Pidgin: “Noh do noh do Mo sa so fun, if you noh get me, forget about it, I no buy Lambo is that why you are shouting? Dem dey where dem dey, I no dey see them.” This roughly translates to:
If you don’t understand me, forget about it. I didn’t buy a Lamborghini; is that why you’re making a fuss? They’re where they are, and I don’t pay attention to them.”
His response suggested that he was unfazed by the allegations and wasn’t interested in addressing them further.
Before replying, Burna Boy shared clips on social media of himself driving a Ferrari, showing off a luxury watch, and showcasing an empty bed in his private jet, which many interpreted as a subtle jab at the situation.
The controversy deepened with the leaked voice notes, which supposedly captured a conversation between Sophia and her sister, where she vented about social media influencer Ama Reginald.
In the recordings, Sophia claimed that Ama encouraged her to pursue Burna Boy, noting his tendency to spoil women with expensive gifts.
“She (Ama) was like, ‘Babe, you should take him (Burna Boy) seriously. You know it’s him that bought Stefflon Don a Cullinan. He spends on girls. Just try and take him seriously,’” Sophia said in the leaked recording.
The situation took another turn when a second voice note emerged, in which Sophia allegedly recounted how a physical encounter with Burna Boy led to him promising to buy her the Lamborghini Urus, but failing to fulfill his pledge.
We went home together after the club, and I thought, okay, he knows how to handle things, and I could benefit from him financially.
He didn’t want me to leave the morning after, but I left anyway. Later, he texted apologising for not calling, but I was more concerned about the money he promised for my car,” she said.
Sophia also blamed Ama for not pressuring Burna Boy’s friend, Manny, to remind the musician of his promise. She said, “If she had spoken up, maybe Manny would have told Burna, ‘Bro, just do the right thing.’ But instead, they both distanced themselves. Burna even found out I bought my car from the blogs, but he still said nothing.”
The drama escalated when Sophia accused Ama of betrayal, revealing that Burna Boy had later flown in American singer Chloe Bailey, allegedly spending lavishly on her. “Ama even told me, ‘She’s (Chloe) the reason he didn’t buy you that Lambo,’” Sophia claimed.
Since the controversy began, Sophia has restricted comments on her Instagram, but her followers have grown significantly, from 100,000 to over 165,000.

The leaked voice notes have sparked widespread reactions on social media. Phrases like “Lambo for Lamba” and “Sex for Lamborghini” quickly began trending, with some mocking Sophia for allegedly expecting a luxury car in exchange for an intimate encounter, while others criticized Burna Boy for not keeping his promise.
Memes and sarcastic reactions flooded platforms like X, with many poking fun at the situation. One viral meme showed Burna Boy performing at a concert with the caption, See how Burna Boy is working hard for his money, and someone else wants the result of a one-night stand.” Another comment read, “Money Burna Boy hustled for; you want it urgently.
Content creators joined the conversation with humorous takes, and some pointed out the enormity of a Lamborghini worth over $200,000 (over ₦300 million).
Nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest also clashed with Burna Boy online, criticizing him for allegedly breaking his promise. Social media personality VeryDarkMan offered to support Sophia if she could provide more proof of her claims.
This isn’t the first time Sophia has faced scrutiny over her wealth. In 2022, she denied rumors linking her to billionaire Jowi Zaza and dismissed claims that she was Nigeria’s “highest-paid escort,” encouraging women to aim higher and understand what it means to live a “soft life.”
As for Burna Boy, his romantic history includes previous relationships with other women, including British Jamaican singer Stefflon Don, who dated him publicly in 2019 before their breakup, during which she received luxury gifts like a car and designer bags.
More recently, Burna Boy has been linked to American singer Chloe Bailey, as they were spotted together during her visit to Nigeria in December 2024
