LAGOS: A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to end their ongoing feud over the party’s leadership.
George made the appeal during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, describing the public exchange between the two former allies as embarrassing and unnecessary.
I want to advise them. Enough of these shenanigans. In politics, whatever you want to do within your system, you do it,” the PDP stalwart said.
Wike and Makinde have been locked in a war of words in recent weeks, trading accusations over the internal affairs and future direction of the PDP.
Makinde recently alleged that Wike had told President Bola Tinubu during a meeting that he would hold down the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Oyo governor said the statement left him shocked and prompted him to confront Wike directly.
However, Wike denied the allegation during an end-of-year media chat, describing it as a blatant lie and accusing Makinde of contributing to the crisis rocking the opposition party.
Wike and Makinde were both members of the now-defunct G5 group of PDP governors, alongside former governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who backed President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
George noted that he had advised the group against making unilateral political decisions at the time, adding that unity within the party remains critical.
