Atiku made the statement in response to recent sexual harassment allegations leveled against Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. During a recent interview with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the program Untold Stories, Atiku was asked if there were any reports of corruption involving Akpabio when he was governor.
Atiku responded, Yes, not only was he corrupt, but he also had a history of abusing women.

Regarding the 2027 elections, Atiku was questioned about his potential candidacy for the presidency and who would lead any coalition aimed at unseating the current government. He replied, “In 2014, we had a similar merger with several candidates contesting.
We all ran for president, and one emerged, and we all supported him. Nigeria has never been in greater need of credible leadership than it is now.
When asked about his reaction to the swift approval of the state of emergency by the National Assembly, Atiku said, “No.
The leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that. They could do anything. The Senate President is known for such behavior, even as a governor.”
