The Rivers state’s dramatic run-up to the local government election comes to a finalization on Saturday with the results declaration.
The result declared by the Rivers state resident electoral commission RSIEC on Saturday shows that the Action People’s Party (APP) has won 22 chairmanship positions out of 23 in the just-concluded local government election in Rivers State
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Chief Electoral Officer, Mr Adolphus Enebeli declared the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt,. The capital city of oil rich state.
However, the state electoral umpire suspended the declaration of results for Etche Local Government Area (LGA) because the collation is still ongoing.
The RSIEC chairman also said that announcement for the 319 councillorship seats will be announced alongside that of the Etche Chairmanship position when collations are concluded
He described the election as free, fair, and credible, despite all odds. According to him, polls were closed at 3 pm and recorded a large turnout of voters.
Enebeli commended the citizens’ patriotism for casting ballots in spite of threat by police and hoodlums that the election would not take place as schedule.
Participating in the polls as observers were members of the Nigerian Bar Association, chairmen of the state’s independent electoral boards across the country, and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

He said that due to the circumstances they found themselves in, the committee “adopted the principle of bi-location.”
The results were released inside the Ministry of Justice Hall at the State Secretariat complex, rather than the Commission’s headquarters on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
