DAURA: State governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State on Monday.
The delegation, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, held a private meeting with Buhari.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Uzodimma explained that the visit was aimed at ensuring Buhari’s well-being, emphasizing his role as the “father of the APC.”
This visit comes amidst the recent defections of some of Buhari’s loyalists from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Notably, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was the first to defect, claiming he had Buhari’s blessing to leave the APC.
In mid-March, reports emerged that several former ministers from Buhari’s cabinet were planning to join the SDP. Also, some APC members from Buhari’s home state of Katsina have also switched to the SDP.
Despite these defections, Uzodimma framed the visit as a demonstration of unity and strength within the ruling party. He described Buhari as a “father in politics” and expressed gratitude that he was in good health.
The governors, according to Uzodimma, decided to visit Buhari following the Ramadan, Lent, and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. He said, “We came to pay a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, the only former president produced by the APC. We found him in good health, and we spent quality time with him.

Uzodimma further stated, “He is pleased with our party and expressed his surprise at our visit. We are thankful to God for his good health. He is our father in politics, and he is happy with the direction the party is headed. As members of the APC, we are proud of him, and he is proud of us.”
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also praised Buhari for his continued support of the party and President Bola Tinubu. “We are here to express our gratitude to former President Buhari for his unwavering support of the APC and President Tinubu,” Sani said.
The APC governors held a closed-door meeting with Buhari to discuss several party and national issues.
