OSOGBO: Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, confirming speculations surrounding his political future ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The governor announced his move on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state executives of the Accord Party.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke disclosed that he would seek a second term on the platform of the party, popularly identified by its Thumb-Up
symbol. He revealed that his decision to join Accord was concluded over a month ago, following extensive consultations.
I formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 after weeks of engagement with critical stakeholders and opinion leaders, Adeleke said. This platform offers us the opportunity to seek re-election in 2026 and complete the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State.
According to the governor, the philosophy and welfare-driven ideology of the Accord Party align with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ well-being.
He called for unity within the party as preparations begin for the next election cycle, stressing the need for inclusive leadership and continuity in governance.
Our responsibility at this historic moment is to remain united and focused, Adeleke said. Good governance, people-centred policies and welfare must always be at the heart of leadership.
That is what Accord stands for. The governor further expressed confidence that voters across Osun West, Central and East senatorial districts would support continuity, citing infrastructure development and social programmes implemented under his administration.
Adeleke had earlier announced his resignation from the PDP on December 1, citing prolonged leadership crises at the party’s national level. In a message shared on his Instagram page, he disclosed that he submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
He appreciated the PDP for the opportunities it afforded him, including his tenure as a senator and governor, but said the prevailing situation within the party made his exit inevitable.
