Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre following her re-arrest in Abuja over an ongoing defamation case.
The actress is expected to remain in detention pending the fixing of a date for her bail hearing, as her bail conditions are yet to be determined by the court.
Reports indicate that Okorie was re-arrested after allegedly failing to honour multiple court summons.
It was also claimed that the surety who stood for her during her initial arrest could not be located, prompting security agencies to track her to Lagos, where she was eventually apprehended.
Her detention sparked reactions online after Nollywood actor Stanley Ontop raised concerns, alleging abuse of power and calling for her release.
Meanwhile, photos from Okorie’s court appearance have surfaced online. The images were shared by her colleague and friend, Sonia Ogiri, who accompanied her to court in Abuja. The actress was seen surrounded by her lawyers during the proceedings.
The development has generated mixed reactions from fans and social media users. While some expressed concern over her situation, others criticised the actress for allegedly disobeying court orders and warned against making unverified accusations online.
Several commenters also referenced Okorie’s long-running feud with fellow actress Mercy Johnson, noting that legal consequences often follow public allegations made without evidence.
Angela Okorie and Mercy Johnson have been at odds for months, a dispute that has drawn reactions from other Nollywood figures, including Regina Daniels, who previously weighed in on the controversy in support of Johnson.
As of the time of filing this report, the court has not announced a date for Okorie’s bail hearing.
